Surroundings
Shobac is ideally situated for easy access to urban and rural amenities. The historic towns of Lunenburg, Chester, Bridgewater and Mahone Bay are nearby. Lunenburg, just 15 kilometres away, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. More great beaches like Rissers Beach and Crescent Beach are located across the LaHave River via a short car ferry. For the adventurous, the nearby LaHave Islands and Bluerocks/Stonehurst offer some of the best sea-kayaking in Canada. The historic drive up the beautiful LaHave River takes you from the open ocean at Shobac in Kingsburg to the rolling farmlands of New Germany in the center of Nova Scotia.
Whether you enjoy folk fare or fine dining, the local area offers plenty of options. Here are some of our favorites after 25 years in the community: Closest to the Shobac is the friendly haunt, The Kilted Frenchman, operated by Debbie Scott. In Lunenburg, Magnolias Grill is a relaxed diner with excellent and interesting food. The Knot Pub servers micro-brew beer on tap, good fish and healthy salads. At the beach in Green Bay, you will find MacLeod's Canteen, with its strawberry-rhubarb pie from another era. The best bakery in Nova Scotia is the LaHave Bakery at the cable ferry. Joanne's Market in Mahone Bay has excellent produce and a nice deli.
